Radical Dharma Camp – Summer 2024

Organization & Institutional Opportunities

Radical Dharma Camp is not Race Training 101. Structured on the idea of good old-fashioned “camp,” it does what no other model for addressing systemic racism and oppression does: it rigorously challenges people to be present to how systemic suffering and injustice live within all of us in spacious, redeeming ways that invite introspection, wonder, vulnerability and fun.

"It has provided space to face the things we may not want to see in ourselves - how we've supported, been a part of systemic racism - and to move into transformation - co-creating the world
we want to be a part of. This work cannot be done alone."

"I was held and found the courage to stay & to trust… Change can be tough, RD Camp can be rough and tumble, and I’m so glad I went. I will again."

"Camp is an invitation to take this work elsewhere;
to weave the Framework for Liberation into those places in our lives where we are hungry for change, thirsty for justice, and ready for love."

"Within Rev’s carefully and fluidly
tended Camp container I could loosen and fall away my heart constriction. Bringing home collective strength,
my body gets it now - the liberatory path. So much gratitude for this gift of practice."

WHY INSTITUTIONAL RATES

Did you know that individual registration fees mostly go to Land Centers? While it appears they distinguish Tuition from Room & Accommodations, they receive a majority of the tuition, as well.

Institutional rates allows us to build in the infrastructure needed for movement-building aspects, including transporting, housing, and paying for additional team members onsite, as well as financial support for people that have experience and assist with assuring support from and for different identities. It also underwrites organizing to get people there and to follow-up.

Most importantly, institutional rates account for the fact that MOST institutions with budgets over $500K are resourced by sources that have made their money through mechanisms and means, historic and current, that have extracted from Indigenous, Black and brown peoples by way of non-paid or under-paid labor, as well as poor white people with consistently lower wages alongside lack of access to vacation, health, and inflexible schedules for them to make their means in otherwise.

Foundations, in particular (which fund orgs) have favorable tax rates and tax codes such that they are most often spending and giving only 5% of the value of their endowments. That means what they pay their leadership and staff — family members, can be included in the 5%.

Add to that acquisition of property and asset shuffling behind invisible walls of LLCs and other practices that allow them to reduce their reportable assets.

The Bottom Line:

Institutional rates do not reset the playing field.

They simply keep the acknowledgement of its unequal nature to go unnamed and unnoticed.
